As a result of police and preventive operations carried out nationwide over the past two days, law enforcement officers have seized 31 illegal firearms, ammunition, and a large quantity of various narcotic substances. A total of 39 individuals have been detained, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Aleksandre Darakhvelidze stated at a briefing held today.

According to him, the operations were conducted in Tbilisi and across all regions of Georgia.

“Employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia continue to combat crime around the clock through appropriate police, including preventive, measures. As a result of police and preventive operations conducted nationwide over the past two days, 31 illegal firearms, ammunition, and a large quantity of various narcotic substances were seized - in total, 39 individuals were detained.

These operations were carried out on the basis of court warrants in Tbilisi and throughout all regions of Georgia. During searches of the detainees’ persons, residential homes, auxiliary premises, and vehicles, police officers seized as evidence a large number of firearms and automatic weapons, hand grenades, magazines, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition. A large quantity of various narcotic substances was also seized. The investigation is being conducted under Articles 236, 260, and 273 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provide for imprisonment of up to 7 years.

We would also like to remind the public that, according to last year’s statistical data, the crime clearance rate reached an unprecedented high of 70%. It is particularly noteworthy that the number of crimes committed against life and health has decreased. These statistical results are precisely the outcome of effective police and preventive measures carried out by the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Our goal is to ensure a safe environment for society, and preventive police measures in this direction will continue actively in the future,” Darakhvelidze stated.
