“I have not spoken with the Foreign Minister, but our position is well-known: we are ready for the strategic partnership to be restored, for relations to be reset, and to start from a new page,” said Kakha Kaladze, Mayor of Tbilisi, commenting on the Washington working visit of Lasha Darsalia, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Kaladze noted that Georgia faced unfair treatment in the past.
He also responded to a question regarding Darsalia publishing a photo from an event attended by Trump, at a time when Salome Zourabichvili had been criticized for releasing photos taken inside the hall at the U.S. presidential inauguration. Kaladze said: “Believe me, I watched Trump’s inauguration more comfortably than Salome Zourabichvili did.”
“I have not spoken with the Foreign Minister, but our position is known to everyone: we are ready for the strategic partnership to be restored, for relations to be reset, and to start from a new page. Everything that happened under the Biden administration went beyond any friendly relations. Remember the unfair treatment toward Georgia in terms of statements and sanctions.
Regarding the matter Trump talks about - ending the war and defeating the ‘Deep State’ - we support it. Let’s wait; the process is ongoing, meetings have taken place, and we are ready,” Kaladze stated.
For reference, Georgia’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Lasha Darsalia, met with the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State. According to the ministry, during the meeting at the U.S. State Department, both sides discussed important issues concerning bilateral relations.
