The government is planning to establish the Georgian Economic Development Bank, according to the Government of Georgia’s short-term legislative activity plan for the 2026 spring session of Parliament.
According to the document, the new financial institution will not engage in banking activities defined for commercial banks that require a license from the National Bank of Georgia.
“The Government of Georgia plans to establish the Georgian Economic Development Bank, which will use the term ‘bank’ in its name and will not carry out those banking activities defined for commercial banks that require licensing by the National Bank of Georgia. Accordingly, relevant amendments must be reflected in the Law of Georgia on the Activities of Commercial Banks,” the government decree states.
