Prosecutor’s Office: Charges filed against individual who accessed victim’s personal correspondence on Facebook without permission and used personal information to coerce sexual acts

The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has filed charges against an individual for the unlawful acquisition, storage, and use of private life information, coercion of a sexual nature, and unauthorized access to a computer system.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, an investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara established that the accused gained unauthorized access to the victim’s personal correspondence on Facebook. Following this, the accused obtained intimate photos of the victim and other sensitive personal information without consent and, by threatening to disclose this information, coerced the victim into engaging in sexual acts.

“The accused has been charged under Article 157¹, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (unlawful acquisition, storage, and use of private life information), Article 139, Part 1 (coercion of sexual acts), and Article 284, Part 1 (unauthorized access to a computer system), which carry a penalty of up to seven years of imprisonment.

The accused has already been placed in detention as a preventive measure,” the statement reads.
