We noted the importance of our relationship, the fact that we are open, we are honest, what we said before we are repeating the same thing now, our country is also distinguished by the fact that we are not in the regime of other people's positions and other people's expectations. We have our own agenda, we have our own challenges, our national interest, our various political, social, economic issues, which we work on a daily basis and this is precisely what is appreciated, - Mikheil Kavelashvili stated on Imedi TV about his conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
According to him, the previous US administration tried to change the political climate in Georgia.
"To make it clear to everyone, these relations were completely changed and damaged precisely because of this great negativity. Of course, this takes time on their part, we have not changed our position, what we had an attitude towards and we felt that this is not the United States of America that wishes you well, I am talking about the previous administration, which so blatantly interfered in our internal affairs, so blatantly tried to change the political climate here. The organizations that this new administration abolished are USAID and NED, which were directly harming us, the Soros Foundation, for which the US President has directly declared war. These are the organizations that were directly hostile to our government and our country. There is a coincidence in this, no one can make this up. They have transformed now, this radical wing - then Trump was their opponent and a man of Russia, today Trump is their savior, etc. We don’t live like that, we have our own agenda,” said Mikheil Kavelashvili.
As Kavelashvili noted, it takes time to analyze and clean up the negativity left by the previous US administration in order to start relations from a clean slate.
"It is important for our society to understand that we live by our own agenda, simply when it comes to normal relations, we were not in this response mode, that we were told something and why are we not doing it, etc. and we had to give an answer, it was the opposite, they saw this great negativity, they are now cleaning up all this negativity, so that our relations can start from a clean slate and in this sense, for me this answer is that if we look past the entire negative process that was being carried out against us during the previous administration, it will probably take quite a long time to get into the details, for all of this to be cleaned up and for our relations to be restored as befits our two countries and for normal relations to begin, and the rest follows from that, let's say where there can be convergence, where the national interests of both countries can be taken into account, etc. In this process, we are quite open, we are quite firm," Mikheil Kavelashvili said.
