The previous US administration has damaged Georgian-American relations so much that it will be very difficult to repair them - this is a difficult but surmountable process, - Georgian Dream MP Tengiz Sharmanashvili noted when talking to journalists about US-Georgian relations and Mikheil Kavelashvili's statements.
"It is one thing what we and our president will say, and another thing what the US State Department itself will say. Its spokesperson stated that meetings were held with representatives of our Foreign Ministry in the US and they view these steps as progress. Such statements from the Americans give us optimism - this is a difficult but surmountable process," - Sharmanashvili said.
When asked whether the process of overcoming means resetting relations, Sharmanashvili noted that "definitely, because the worldview of the new US administration coincides with Georgia's worldview in details."
“Even the famous date that we declared as the date of family sanctity in our country was declared as the date of prayer there. Even at the level of details, we have a common worldview, which I am sure will bring results sooner or later.
It is easy to spoil a business, but it is difficult to turn it around later. Relations here were spoiled not once and for all, but we are slowly starting to restore them,” said Tengiz Sharmanashvili.
For information, Mikheil Kavelashvili said that at the ceremonial reception of the Italian President, “JD Vance greeted us and then Secretary of State Marco Rubio stayed with us for a little longer and the business conversation turned out to be more in-depth.”
According to him, Marco Rubio noted during his speech that “they inherited a lot of negativity from the previous administration in relation to Georgia” and that in the near future they will definitely prepare properly to restore relations between the two countries.
