New charges will be filed against Nika Melia, one of the leaders of the Coalition for Change. Melia's lawyer, Giorgi Kondakhishvili, told InterpressNews.
According to him, the charges are scheduled to be filed at the penitentiary at 3:00 PM.
“As I learned, Nika Melia is also accused of insulting the court, although now the matter concerns the judge Tornike Kochkiani, who was hearing the administrative case of his detention in the territory of Lake Lisi. This is the case when Nika was kidnapped, but, on the contrary, he was fined. They offered us an absurd version, as if he insulted the police officers and then was arrested on Lake Lisi. In reality, there was kidnapping.
A new charge will be filed under the second part of Article 366, which refers to insulting the court. I was told that the evidence will be provided after the charge is filed.
Today, after 15:00, we should go to the Rustavi prison with the investigator and the charge will be filed.
That day, we were all present at the process and no one noticed any incident, neither journalists, nor me, nor the judge himself. He has not made any comments about the insult. He has not even given Nika a warning. I cannot say what kind of insult he is talking about, but the fact is that they want to break him psychologically. This is a repeated accusation, it is a targeted attack," said Giorgi Kondakhishvili.
For information, the case concerns the fact that occurred on May 29, when Nika Melia was detained on administrative charges.
Melia has been sentenced to 8 months in prison in another case, which concerns his refusal to cooperate with the temporary investigative commission of the parliament. At the same time, Melia is convicted in another case, in which he was found guilty of splashing water at a judge and was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison.
