Maka Botchorishvili - The new US administration has a negative legacy towards Georgia - Marco Rubio has clearly stated that this should be reviewed and relations with Georgia should be put on the US agenda

The new US administration has a very negative legacy towards Georgia. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has clearly stated that all this must be reviewed and relations with Georgia must be put on the US agenda, Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili told journalists.

Botchorishvili expressed hope that in the near future we will see concrete steps taken by the US towards normalizing relations with Georgia.

“I had the opportunity to talk to the US Secretary of State during the opening of the Milan Olympics. One thing that is clear and understood is that the new administration has a very negative legacy towards Georgia, which you have seen. The Secretary of State stated unequivocally that all this must be reviewed, relations with Georgia must be brought up to some extent on the US agenda. We hope that in the near future we will see concrete steps taken by the US to normalize relations with Georgia and then discuss the issues that we have discussed many times. We want a strategic partnership from a clean slate. A strategic partnership that will be loaded with content, taking into account the interests of both countries,” said Maka Botchorishvili.

In addition, according to her, in parallel with the meeting with Marco Rubio, Deputy Minister Lasha Darsalia held a number of high-level meetings in Washington, therefore, ultimately, the Georgian side expects the issue of reviewing relations with Georgia to be activated on the US agenda.

“In parallel, you know that the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs was in Washington and held meetings with quite high-level representatives in various institutions. Of course, this was also a very good opportunity to talk more about the details of our relations. We expect that the issue of reviewing relations with Georgia will be more actively on the US agenda,” Maka Botchorishvili noted.

In addition, she stated that “a fairly meaningful conversation took place” with both JD Vance and Marco Rubio, and they discussed important issues that are on the agenda of Georgia and the US.

"On both days, we had the opportunity to communicate with US representatives. On the first day, we communicated more with US Vice President JD Vance, and on the second day, we talked more with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, which was quite meaningful, and even in that short time, we were able to focus on the important issues that are on the Georgia-US agenda today," said Maka Bochorishvili.
