Péter Szijjártó - The EU is making a big mistake when it thinks it should keep Georgia at a distance, it would be much more useful to have close talks with Georgia than with Ukraine

Hungary and Georgia have been able to withstand external pressure because they have very strong leaders, and Georgia and Hungary have not been broken by daily pressure, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said at the joint press conference with Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili.

He said the EU was “making a huge mistake” in thinking it should keep Georgia at a distance. According to Szijjártó, “negotiations with Georgia would be much more beneficial than with Ukraine.”

“Now is a particularly important time. These days are particularly important because a new world order is being created that will create the opportunity to protect the sovereignty and independence of states - those states that pay special attention to sovereignty, that will not allow interference in the internal affairs of their own countries. Hungary and Georgia are a vivid example of this. They are states that did not allow themselves to be involved in a war, that did not allow outside forces to interfere in their internal political life, that they were stupid actors in the face of an outside force. This is a fight that will never end, we will continue to fight every day for our sovereignty and independence, and the reason for this is that Brussels is moving in other directions. Until the President of the European Commission is Ursula von der Leyen, we will have to resist provocations. We must do everything to avoid interfering in the war in Ukraine.

Hungary and Georgia were able to withstand external pressure because they have very strong leaders, neither Georgia nor Hungary could be broken under the daily pressure. We will not allow others to defeat us. We are proud of the fact that Hungary and Georgia are pioneers of the global patriotic revolution. These are two states that clearly demonstrate what a patriotic revolution can achieve.

Brussels is interfering in the elections. Georgia is an independent sovereign state with an elected government. Hungarians will always stand by Georgia. We have opposed all kinds of sanctions against Georgia, against high-ranking officials of the Georgian government, and we have always opposed the imposition of visa restrictions and have never agreed that Georgia should give up its sovereignty to join the European Union.

We think that the European Union is making a big mistake when it thinks that Georgia should be kept at a distance from the European Union. From our point of view, the situation is clear - Georgia will strengthen the European Union and close negotiations with Georgia will be much more beneficial than with Ukraine, because Ukraine will not only weaken the European Union, but will also pose a threat to the European Union due to very low-quality grain and other products," said Szijjártó.
