Giorgi Sharashidze: It’s a paradox that historic events are unfolding in the south Caucasus without Georgia

“The visit of U.S. Vice President Jey D. Vance to the region, bypassing Georgia and going directly to Armenia and Azerbaijan, once again confirms that the new U.S. administration does not consider Georgia a reliable and strategic partner in the region - historic events in the South Caucasus are unfolding without Georgia!” said Giorgi Sharashidze, a deputy from the party “For Georgia” at a briefing.

According to Sharashidze, Georgia is losing its strategic significance in the region due to the ruling party “Georgian Dream’s” deliberately anti-national and incompetent policies.

“As a result of Georgian Dream’s incompetent and anti-national policies, Georgia is losing its strategic role in the South Caucasus. The U.S. Vice President Jey D. Vance’s visit to Armenia and Azerbaijan, bypassing Georgia, confirms once again that the new U.S. administration does not consider Georgia a reliable and strategic partner in the region. Right before our eyes - but unfortunately without us - a new history is being written, delineating the contours of liberation from Russian influence and strategic peace.”

Sharashidze emphasized that Vance’s visit to Yerevan and Baku is further proof that “Georgian Dream” is not a peacemaker; rather, its anti-national policies create the highest risks and threats to real and long-term peace and economic well-being in Georgia.

“It’s a paradox that, during the U.S. Vice President’s visit to the region, the only thing Georgian Dream can offer its people is propaganda: random protocol photos with the Vice President and the U.S. Secretary of State.

“The truth is clear, and no propaganda from Georgian Dream can hide it - historic events in the South Caucasus are unfolding without Georgia.”

At a joint press conference with Prime Minister Pashinyan, the U.S. Vice President stated that America’s unprecedented investments in Armenia are based on the Armenian government’s reliability, an ideal relationship with President Trump, and efforts toward peace. This once again demonstrates that Georgian Dream’s alleged role as a peacemaker is fictional, not trusted by partners, and that the party is an unreliable partner for the U.S. There is also the matter of Georgian Dream’s inconsistent stance on the Trump administration, which their propagandists alternately label as “defense-oriented” or “war-mongering.”

Sharashidze concluded: “Through its deliberately anti-national and incompetent policies, Georgian Dream is causing Georgia to lose strategic importance in a region where it was recently America’s anchor. Today, Georgian Dream is in full isolation and declares Georgia’s strategic partners as enemies, while our neighbors are using smart politics to gain economic benefits and security guarantees that Georgia should also have received.

“The Georgian people have shed blood for what Georgian Dream is losing for Georgia today, and the full responsibility lies with them. Despite these treacherous actions, we must work intensively to restore Georgia to the U.S. agenda.”
