A Georgian citizen who was illegally detained on August 9, 2025, in the occupied Akhalgori territory is now free and is on territory controlled by the central government. This information was released by the State Security Service of Georgia (SSG).

“In the process of securing the release of the illegally detained Georgian citizen, all relevant instruments available to the central government were actively used.

The central government and the State Security Service continue to work actively to secure the release of all Georgian citizens held illegally in the occupied territories,” the SSG stated.
