At this point, no one needs to shake hands with him or take a position toward him,” said Guram Macharashvili, a deputy from the “People’s Power” party, commenting on messages from Germany’s ambassador, Peter Fischer, in an interview with Interpressnews.

According to Macharashvili, Fischer is focused on undermining Georgia’s state institutions and government.

When a diplomat engages in pre-election campaigns and uses a language of hatred to undermine Georgia’s state institutions and government, what kind of diplomacy or ambassadorship is this? This is Germany’s challenge; ours only insofar as this person insults Georgian institutions. We have said this more than once, and I think in Georgia, regardless of political views, everyone should see it. But for the agencies, does it matter whether Peter Fischer undermines Georgian values or not? What matters to the agencies is what the 'Deep State' and its representative Peter Fischer say here - and that’s why he speaks this way.
