Georgian Railways - Resumption of rail traffic between Russia and Georgia is not being considered

Resumption of rail traffic between Russia and Georgia is not being considered, - Georgian Railways says in a statement.

As Georgian Railways explains, it is incomprehensible to them to talk about resuming rail traffic.

"Resumption of rail traffic between Russia and Georgia is not being considered, therefore, it is absolutely incomprehensible to us why this issue has been put on the agenda," – reads the statement.

Russian Vice Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk stated that the restoration of rail traffic between Russia and Georgia via the territory of Abkhazia is being considered.

"Work is underway to unblock all disrupted roads in the Caucasus, including the restoration of rail traffic between the Russian Federation and Georgia via the territory of Abkhazia," - Alexei Overchuk stated.

According to Overchuk, the restoration of the railway will ensure Russia's connection with Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Iran, which has access to ports in the Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean.
