GYLA is an organization engaged in ordinary political activism — I doubt they are driven by any goals other than political ones, said Georgian Dream MP Levan Machavariani in response to GYLA’s lawsuit.
According to him, “it is always better to go to court and wait for the appropriate verdict than to shout in the streets.”
“They can take anything to court. It is always better to go to court and wait for the appropriate verdict than to shout in the streets. As for the fairy tales about poisoning and chemical substances, the State Security Service conducted an investigation into this matter. The Prime Minister’s offer remains in force — any interested international actor can come, and we will provide all investigative materials so they can draw their own conclusions, but to this day there has been no response. As for GYLA, I doubt they are driven by any goals other than political ones. GYLA is an organization engaged in ordinary political activism,” Machavariani stated.
For reference, the Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association (GYLA) announced that it is initiating legal proceedings on behalf of citizens allegedly harmed by substances mixed into water cannons and is addressing the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia with the relevant communication.
As GYLA Chair Tamar Oniani stated at today’s briefing, until December 2025, despite calls to do so, the state had not disclosed information about which chemical substances were being used.
According to her, GYLA is currently representing seven alleged victims who have provided the organization with information about various health problems, and each of them continues to suffer from these issues.
Oniani said they link these problems to special measures used against them by the Ministry of Internal Affairs during November–December 2024.
