According to Tbilisi Prosecutor Giorgi Mikaia, the Georgian Prosecutor's Office has solved the case of the murder of Niko Kvaratskhelia.
According to him, the Prosecutor's Office will charge Guram Kakulia, Davit Kakulia, and Besarion Zhvania with organizing a group premeditated murder of Niko Kvaratskhelia.
"The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia has issued a decree charging Guram Kakulia, Davit Kakulia and Besarion Zhvania with organizing an ordered, group premeditated murder of Nikoloz Kvaratskhelia.
As a result of an investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it was established that the brothers Guram and Davit Kakulias, in order to take revenge on the so-called thief in law, Gia Kvaratskhelia, and to strengthen their authority in the criminal world, planned the murder of the latter's son Nikoloz Kvaratskhelia. The brothers' father, the so-called thief in law, Davit Kakulia, was killed in Moscow on August 25, 2001, which caused a stir in the criminal underworld and in society. There was information that the person who ordered the murder of Davit Kakulia was allegedly Gia Kvaratskhelia.
Guram and Davit Kakulias entrusted their friend Besarion Zhvania with the intention of ordering the murder of Nikoloz Kvaratskhelia and agreed to organize the murder of Nikoloz Kvaratskhelia. Besarion Zhvania began searching for the perpetrator, for which he contacted his acquaintances Aleko Chelidze and Giorgi Kaviladze, offered them to carry out the group murder of Nikoloz Kvaratskhelia. Aleko Chelidze and Giorgi Kaviladze traveled to the Republic of Armenia several times in July and August 2021 to meet with Guram and Davit Kakulias, where they gave the necessary instructions to organize the murder.
In order to organize and facilitate the leadership of the premeditated murder, Davit and Guram Kakulias illegally crossed the state border of Georgia in early September 2021, which was known to Besarion Zhvania, who housed them in a house owned by his family located on Ilia Chavchavadze Ave. No. 78. Aleko Chelidze and Giorgi Kaviladze regularly visited the aforementioned house. The Kakulia brothers gave him a mobile phone intended for communication with them during the criminal act.
Aleko Chelidze and Giorgi Kaviladze, in turn, illegally acquired firearms and cartridges intended for the commission of the crime. They also determined the address of Nikoloz Kvaratskhelia's residence and studied the details of his movements through daily surveillance.
On September 14, 2021, Giorgi Kaviladze and Aleko Chelidze rented a Hyundai Elantra car and prepared to commit the crime.
On September 15, 2021, at approximately 4:20 p.m., Giorgi Kaviladze and Aleko Chelidze arrived in Tbilisi in a rented Hyundai Elantra car, in the vicinity of Anjaparidze Street, and ambushed Nikoloz Kvaratskhelia. Aleko Chelidze shot Nikoloz Kvaratskhelia several times with a firearm. Nikoloz Kvaratskhelia tried to escape from the attacker, but Aleko Chelidze chased him and continued to shoot at him, causing serious, life-threatening injuries. After the shooting, Aleko Chelidze and Giorgi Kaviladze fled the scene in the car driven by the latter. People gathered at the scene took Nikoloz Kvaratskhelia to the hospital, but he died of his injuries the same day.
Immediately after committing the crime, Aleko Chelidze and Giorgi Kaviladze informed the perpetrators of the murder, Guram and Davit Kakulias, about the incident by phone, after which the brothers left their temporary residence, the house owned by Besarion Zhvania's family, within a few minutes. Giorgi Kaviladze contacted Besarion Zhvania using the taxi driver's mobile phone and during the conversation indicated the murder of Nikoloz Kvaratskhelia.
The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia is charging Guram Kakulia, Davit Kakulia, and Besarion Zhvania with organizing an ordered, group premeditated murder of Nikoloz Kvaratskhelia under Articles 25, 109, Part 2, Subparagraph “e” and Part 3, Subparagraph “g” of the Criminal Code of Georgia (as amended in 2021), which provides for a sentence of up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
As is known to the public, Aleko Chelidze and Giorgi Kaviladze have already been convicted of the group premeditated murder of Nikoloz Kvaratskhelia, and the illegal acquisition, storage, and carrying of firearms and ammunition, and have been sentenced to 17 and 16 years of imprisonment, respectively.
Guram and Davit Kakulias, accused of organizing a group premeditated murder of Nikoloz Kvaratskhelia, have been convicted and are in a penitentiary institution on another criminal case. We would like to remind the public that in 2022, the Kakulia brothers wounded one person on Arakishvili Street with the intention of premeditated murder by firing several times and they have been sentenced to 9 years in prison for this act.
The Prosecutor's Office will apply to the court within the time limit established by law for the imposition of pre-trial detention on the accused Besarion Zhvania.
Besarion Zhvania will be declared wanted in accordance with the procedure established by law.
The investigation into the criminal case is ongoing, with the aim of identifying other individuals involved in the crime," Mikaia said
