Alain Berset: The report of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture on Georgia raises serious concerns - I will discuss these conclusions with Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili next week

Today's CPT report on Georgia raises serious concerns, including allegations of police ill-treatment during the late-2024 demonstrations, - this was stated by Council of Europe Secretary General Alain Berset on social media.

According to him, ill-treatment is never justified.

“I will raise these findings with FM Maka Botchorishvili next week at the Human Rights Council,” - writes Alain Berset.

The Secretary General emphasizes that the Council of Europe is ready to support reforms.

To remind you, the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) has published a report on the visits carried out in Georgia from 18 to 29 November 2024 and from 21 to 22 January 2025.
