We have received very detailed information from the Georgian authorities regarding the infrastructure that is a cause of our concern. We are also assured that this infrastructure will not be used to circumvent sanctions, - this was stated by Pawel Herczyński, the European Union's Ambassador to Georgia, in relation to the Kulevi port.
The ambassador explained that at this moment he cannot say whether this evidence will be sufficient to prevent sanctions from being imposed on the Kulevi port.
“I can confirm that discussions on the 20th sanctions package continue. At this moment, unanimity has not been reached. I can also confirm that we have received very detailed information from the Georgian authorities regarding the infrastructure that is a cause of our concern. We are also assured that this infrastructure will not be used to circumvent sanctions. Whether the provided information and assurances will be sufficient for member countries to avoid sanctioning this specific infrastructure - at this stage, I cannot say. I sincerely hope that member countries will soon reach unanimity regarding the 20th sanctions package. Naturally, we will very closely monitor Georgia's compliance with international sanctions,” - stated the EU Ambassador.
