The opposition should pray every day that we do not call snap elections - if we hold snap elections, we will take far more than we currently have, - this was stated by Irakli Zarkua, Chairman of the Parliament's Diaspora Issues Committee, while commenting on the announced changes to the Electoral Code.
According to him, the opposition has been left without any rating whatsoever.
“We are doing this in accordance with international practice. When you are called an international observer, you should not be a representative of a local, newly created organization that pins a 'badge' on you. It should be a citizen of a foreign country over the age of 18. This is the norm, the standard, and we are introducing it into the Georgian electoral system.
Today the opposition should pray that we do not call snap elections. They are zeroed out, without any face, without a homeland, without any rating. If we hold snap elections, we will take far more than we currently have, although there is absolutely no basis or precondition for snap elections. They should pray every day that we do not call snap elections. Their participation in elections would not even be allowed. There will be elections in 2028, and they should prepare,” - stated Zarkua.
For information: Georgian Dream is introducing changes to the newly adopted electoral legislation. The amendments initiated in Parliament concern international election observers. The Electoral Code will stipulate that an international observer can only be a citizen of a foreign country - from the age of 18. The draft also defines the registration procedures for interpreters accompanying international observers. According to the same amendments, the rules for photographing, video recording, and audio monitoring of election commission sessions by individuals will be determined by a resolution of the CEC (Central Election Commission).
