I cannot agree with anyone that with such methods of attitude toward Georgia they have any impact whatsoever on weakening Russia in general, - this was stated by Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili to journalists after her meeting with the British Ambassador, Gareth Ward, who was summoned to the Foreign Ministry due to the sanctions imposed by the United Kingdom on "Imedi" and POSTV.
According to her, when pressure is exerted on Georgian society, it raises questions, and they are not afraid to ask these questions.
"Information is being spread that confirms how much trade companies registered in Great Britain conduct with Russia. Such materials exist, presented not only in the Georgian but also in the international media, and they are based on research. Of course, against this background, when pressure is exerted on Georgian society, it raises questions. We are not afraid to ask these questions.
We are asking the question: what purpose does the pressure on the Georgian state and society serve, and what connection does it have at all to the fight against Russia, as they tell us they are fighting Russia. I cannot agree with anyone in any way that with such methods of attitude toward Georgia they have any impact on weakening Russia in general. I cannot agree with this," - noted the Minister.
In response to a question about what purpose the British Embassy had if it "provided false information," the Minister explained: "This is exactly what interests me too; I asked the Ambassador the very same question - what purposes does providing false information to the capital serve, information that serves as the basis for such a decision. I asked the Ambassador exactly the same question."
"Unfortunately, we have seen a lot of unfair attitude toward Georgia, toward the Georgian government, toward Georgian society, which they mention so often, because the legitimate representative of the Georgian people is the Georgian government; the government acts in the interests of the Georgian people. Our main motive and driving force is the national interests of our country. Our national interest is declared; it is primarily connected to peace and stability in our country," - noted the Minister.
According to her, work with the British side will continue.
"Of course, we will continue working with the British side; we will have communication in various forms. We also have an embassy in Great Britain, and of course, the embassy is here, and we have communication. It is difficult to say what results this may have; we will wait and see if anything concrete is presented from the British side," - noted the Minister.
