The Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of Kakha Kaladze from Georgian Dream commented to the media on a statement regarding Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. He was responding to remarks by Marta Kos, who called for new rules to allow Ukraine’s faster accession to the EU.
According to Kaladze, it had long been said that it was impossible for Ukraine to become an EU member state, and Georgia had faced the same attitude.
“We know what the reality is. For a long time they were saying that it was impossible for Ukraine to become a member of the European Union, and the same attitude existed toward Georgia. Some people created the illusion that we would be accepted into the EU tomorrow, but that is not the case. We should not deceive the people; we must talk about reality. Europe is facing enormous challenges. We see what kind of relations EU member states have with each other and how much tension there is. We also heard statements from the Baltic states. In general, the situation in the world is tense,” Kaladze said.
