Historian and opposition politician Gubaz Sanikidze and former Defense Minister Tina Khidasheli have been summoned for questioning by the State Security Service.
As they told InterpressNews, they are ready to answer questions within the framework of the investigation launched by the State Security Service, however, Gubaz Sanikidze intends to answer questions only before a magistrate judge.
“I am still waiting for the judge’s call. Of course, I will answer the questions before the judge,” said Gubaz Sanikidze.
As for Tina Khidasheli, she said she is going to go to the agency.
“I am going to go, but I don’t know when,” said Tina Khidasheli.
According to available information, the State Security Service has questions about the politicians’ statements made in the media regarding the increased Iranian influence in Georgia.
In this regard, the State Security Service made the following clarification to InterpressNews.
“In recent days, various individuals have publicly voiced a number of information about the recruitment of personnel from Georgia by other countries, including accusations or hints of terrorism.
We are closely monitoring and studying both the content of these statements, which are contrary to the factual data, and the motivation of their authors to accuse Georgia of similar issues, especially against the backdrop of the ongoing hostilities in the region and considering the fact that none of the authors of such statements has ever provided any information to the law enforcement agencies. An investigation has been launched and the authors of the statements will be questioned in all directions, including being given the opportunity to indicate any specific facts within the framework of the investigation,” the State Security Service told InterpressNews.
