Levan Makhashvili: It has become clear that the entire campaign raised around the Kulevi port and sanctions in general was complete falsehood and manipulation - we have heard gossip on this topic from more than one ambassador

It has become clear that the entire campaign raised around the Kulevi port and sanctions in general was complete falsehood and manipulation - it has been confirmed for the umpteenth time that these people are gossips and liars; the Georgian government is doing its job, - this was stated by Levan Makhashvili, Chairman of the Parliament’s Committee on European Integration, in response to the removal of the Kulevi port from the EU’s 20th sanctions package

According to him, this decision by the European Union is welcome.

Makhashvili stated that the Georgian side will remain in close contact with interested parties so that the European Union, Americans, and British can be confident that “nothing is really happening” at the Kulevi port.

“This decision by the European Union is truly welcome. Once again, it has been confirmed that the Georgian government honestly and conscientiously fulfills its obligations to its partners, first and foremost the obligation toward Ukrainians. For the umpteenth time, it has become clear that the entire campaign raised around this topic and sanctions in general was complete falsehood and manipulation, nothing more and nothing less. We have heard gossip on this topic from more than one ambassador. Today it has become clear who is the real gossip and who is responsible in this process. Of course, in such a situation, what we expect first and foremost is an apology from this person - at least an acknowledgment of the truth that his statements were gossip and baseless slander against the Georgian government. I think that with this letter, not only regarding sanctions but also regarding the behavior of some ambassadors and diplomats, everything has become clear. It has been confirmed for the umpteenth time that these people are gossips and liars. The Georgian government is doing its job.

When this process began, there were questions: is something really happening in this port? The questions have been answered - first, that nothing is happening, and second, we will remain in close contact with interested parties so that not only we, but also the European Union side, the Americans, and the British can be confident that nothing is really happening. That is what this is about,” - stated Makhashvili.

For information: The EU Special Representative for Sanctions Issues, David O’Sullivan, sent a letter to Georgia’s Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili, stating that the European Union did not include the Kulevi Oil Terminal located in Georgia in the 20th sanctions package against Russia.
