We simply exchanged views; the [OSCE] mission did not come here to give any recommendations to anyone or to make any assessments, — this was stated by the Chairman of the Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze, when speaking about the meeting with the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly delegation.
According to Samkharadze, the delegation members repeated at every meeting that they condemn violence and attacks on state institutions.
“We had quite high-level meetings over two days. Everything began yesterday with a meeting with the Parliament Speaker, then they met with all opposition parties, visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, met with the Public Defender, the President, and today it all concluded with a meeting with the Prime Minister.
We simply exchanged views; this mission did not come here to give recommendations to anyone or to make any assessments. The Assembly President said it is not his role to say whether prisoners in Georgia are detained on political grounds or otherwise.
This organization was the only one that condemned the violent attack on the President’s Palace. By the way, during all these meetings, they repeated once again at every meeting that they condemn violence and attacks on state institutions. As for criticism, I cannot tell you in advance what they will write in the report — there may be criticism, there may be praise, so let’s wait,” — stated Nikoloz Samkharadze.
According to Nikoloz Samkharadze, the OSCE delegation was explained the main reason for the lack of political dialogue in Georgia.
“The lack of dialogue between political parties in Georgia does not require the arrival of the OSCE delegation to understand — we live in this country and we all see it very well. However, this lack of dialogue has one main reason: the opposition does not recognize the election results. Accordingly, they do not recognize the Georgian government as a legitimate government, they do not enter Parliament, and therefore we are deprived of the opportunity to have political dialogue with them. We explained all this very well to the delegation, although even without our explanation they were very well informed about all of this,” — stated Nikoloz Samkharadze.
