Lelo-Strong Georgia - It is necessary to overcome the destructive logic of confrontation and mutual destruction and begin responsible political negotiations between the Georgian Dream and opposition parties

It is necessary to overcome the destructive logic of confrontation and mutual destruction and begin responsible political negotiations between the Georgian Dream and those opposition parties that won the support of the majority of the Georgian population in the 2024 parliamentary elections, despite the undemocratic conduct of the elections and the falsification of reality by the Georgian Dream with its official results, - reads the statement of Lelo-Strong Georgia, which was presented to the public by the Secretary General, Irakli Kupradze.

According to the statement, the peaceful, democratic and state-based solution to the current political crisis is an agreement to hold new, free and fair parliamentary elections.

“Today, an extremely difficult geopolitical situation has been created around Georgia. The ongoing hostilities in the region and the armed conflicts in Georgia’s immediate vicinity significantly increase the security risks of our country and pose new, serious challenges to Georgia.

Against this backdrop, the deep political crisis within the country is particularly alarming, which further weakens state institutions and reduces the country’s ability to effectively respond to external threats.

Unfortunately, the current situation has been significantly aggravated as a result of the policy that has effectively isolated Georgia from its strategic partners. Georgia’s security, stability and development are impossible without strong international support and close cooperation with Western partners.

Georgia will not be able to emerge from this international isolation without a significant reset in the political process.

Against this backdrop, it is alarming that the internal political confrontation in the country is only deepening. Hundreds of citizens imprisoned on political grounds, repressive legislative initiatives, ongoing legal prosecutions against opposition parties and their leaders, and, of course, civil pressure on society further exacerbates the crisis.

The conclusion of the OSCE Moscow Mechanism confirmed the deep political and legal crisis in Georgia; this conclusion is the verdict of the international community towards the Georgian Dream and directly states that under the current political course, there is no prospect of forming a unified and strong Georgian state with a stable and European future.

All this may lead us to a situation where finding a solution, even in the presence of political will, will no longer be possible.

In such a situation, the interests of the country and society require a rapid de-escalation of the political confrontation and responsible, state-based decisions.

In light of the grave challenges in the region in terms of security, Georgia today needs political stability, national consolidation and a political system with strong democratic legitimacy.

Today, Georgia needs to launch a broad political dialogue focused on de-escalating the country’s internal political crisis, with the active involvement of representatives of an extremely polarized society.

It is necessary to overcome the destructive logic of confrontation - mutual destruction and begin responsible political negotiations between the Georgian Dream and those opposition parties that won the support of the majority of the Georgian population in the 2024 parliamentary elections, despite the undemocratic conduct of the elections and the falsification of reality by the Georgian Dream with its official results.

A peaceful, democratic and state-oriented solution to the current political crisis is an agreement to hold new, free and fair parliamentary elections. New elections are the only way to reduce political polarization in the country and create a stable environment necessary for Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic future.

In parallel with this, in order to reduce political tension in the country, it is necessary to release political prisoners.

These are the decisions that the state — the citizens of Georgia — need! Protecting national interests in the most difficult international environment created today is impossible without national consolidation.

Strong Georgia-Lelo is ready to act responsibly together with all political forces for whom Georgia's security and democracy are the top national priority.

We believe that responsible political dialogue, the restoration of the democratic process and the country's return to the path of European development are the only way out of the crisis in which the Georgian state has found itself 35 years after the restoration of its independence," reads the statement.
