At the moment, [the Patriarch's] condition is without any significant dynamics. There are still some changes in certain directions and variables, although there is no talk of any significant improvement or deterioration, - Minister of Health Mikheil Sarjveladze told journalists at the Caucasus Medical Center regarding the health condition of the Patriarch of Georgia, Ilia II.
According to Sarjveladze, doctors are constantly monitoring all the data, where we can see opportunities for further improvement.
As for the decision to bring a Turkish doctor, the Minister said that the decision was made in the morning, tickets have been purchased, and in just a few hours a highly qualified, highly respected Turkish doctor-resuscitator will be in Tbilisi.
“We also reached an agreement with the clinic that he will be allowed to work. We will go through all the legal procedures in order to receive qualified advice from the Turkish doctor”, he said.
According to Mikheil Sarjveladze, there are no plans to transfer the Catholicos-Patriarch to another country to continue treatment.
“As for the transfer, at this stage the health condition of His Holiness does not allow us to consider this option. The current situation is such that there is no objective basis to say that treatment elsewhere could be better. This was confirmed by the council held here,” said Mikheil Sarjveladze.
According to Sarjveladze, the Patriarch’s health condition has worsened since yesterday afternoon, when he first had a problem with saturation, and then with hemoglobin.
“We have been aware of the situation from the very first minutes and are following this situation. Since yesterday, around noon, a problem has arisen, there was a drop in saturation, therefore, there were certain parameters that required some intervention, therefore, the treating doctors made a decision to transfer him to the Chapidze Clinic due to problems related to saturation.
Later, it turned out that there were also problems related to hemoglobin. The hemoglobin indicated to the doctors that there could be blood loss, which could have been asymptomatic at that moment. Later, this hidden bleeding was revealed and, accordingly, a decision was immediately made to transfer the Patriarch to a polyprofile institution. It was around 02:00 at night. Here, too, a decision was immediately made to carry out the medical manipulations that were carried out," Sarjveladze said.
According to the Minister of Health, "the medical manipulations were successful, because the source of the blood loss in the stomach was actually neutralized."
