The embassy statement reads: “We express our deep sorrow over the passing of Georgia’s spiritual father, His Holiness and Beatitude, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilia II. His Holiness’ legacy will remain as an example of faith, love, and peace. We extend our condolences to the Orthodox Church, the clergy, and the people of Georgia.”

For reference, His Holiness and Beatitude, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilia II, passed away at the age of 93. Following his passing, a period of mourning was declared in Georgia.
