US Embassy in Georgia releases information about visa bond program

The U.S. Embassy in Georgia has released information about the visa bond program.

As the embassy explains, starting April 2, 2026, nationals of Georgia who are found otherwise eligible for a B1/B2 visa must post a bond of up to $15,000.

“Starting April 2, 2026, nationals of Georgia who are found otherwise eligible for a B1/B2 visa must post a bond of up to $15,000.

At the time of the interview, the consular officer will inform the applicant whether they are eligible for a visa and will provide instructions on how to pay this bond.

Applicants must not use any third-party website for posting the bond, nor pay a bond before instructed to do so by a consular officer.

B1/B2 visas for nationals of Georgia cannot be issued until the bond has been paid. This requirement applies regardless of place of application. For more information click https://ge.usembassy.gov/ka/visas-ka/#deposit", reads the statement.

For information, Georgia has been added to the list of countries whose citizens will have to post a bond of up to $15,000 for certain types of US visas. In particular, on March 18, the US State Department added Georgia and 11 more countries (Cambodia, Ethiopia, Grenada, Lesotho, Mauritius, Mongolia, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Papua New Guinea, Seychelles, Tunisia) to the list of countries whose citizens will have to post a bond for certain short-term visas. These are B1 (business) and B2 (tourism/medical treatment) visas.
