Ministry of Internal Affairs: In connection with the death of Georgia's Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II, traffic restrictions will be imposed throughout Tbilisi on March 21

In connection with the death of Georgia's Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II, traffic restrictions will be imposed on vehicle movement throughout Tbilisi on March 21. This is stated in the joint information disseminated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Tbilisi City Hall.

The disseminated information also notes that the restrictions will apply to both private vehicles and municipal transport.

"On March 21, from 15:00 to 00:00, vehicle movement will be fully restricted in the following directions:

Freedom Square, Shalva Dadiani Street (direction changed);

Rustaveli Avenue — from Freedom Square to Republic Square;

All streets connecting to Rustaveli Avenue;

Metekhi Bridge, Europe Square;

Baratashvili Bridge, Baratashvili Slope;

Ketevan Tsamebuli Avenue — from Hotel "Metekhi" toward Avlabari Metro Station;

Avlip Zurabashvili and Telavi Streets, Tsurtumia Street, Akhveldiani Square.

During this period, movement will be possible via alternative routes:

Vehicle flow from Sololaki will move via Asatiani Street toward Gorgasali Street;

Flow moving on Upper Vera will be able to move via Barnovi Street toward Round Garden, as well as from Barnovi Street toward Melikishvili Avenue via all adjacent streets;

Vehicles from Kote Apkhazi Street will be redirected to Shalva Dadiani Street (movement on Freedom Square is fully restricted); via Lermontovi and Machabeli Streets, they will reach Leonidze Street, from where they will continue toward Sololaki;

Vehicles on Ketevan Tsamebuli Avenue will be able to move up to Hotel "Sheraton Metekhi Palace," from where they will continue via Bochorna Street toward the central office of "Socar."

In addition, the existing restrictions on streets around the Holy Trinity Cathedral remain in force.
