According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, restrictions will be imposed on the movement of transport throughout Tbilisi on March 22 in connection with the funeral of Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia, Ilia II.
Restrictions will apply to both private vehicles and municipal transport.
“From 02:00 on March 22 until the end of the funeral ceremony, the movement of transport will be completely restricted in the following directions: on the right bank of the Mtkvari River from Galaktioni Bridge in the direction of Ortachala to the baths;
On Freedom Square, Rustaveli Avenue and all connecting streets including First Republic Square;
Movement will be restricted on Asatiani, Shalva Dadiani, Kote Abkhazi, Pushkini, Vertskhla and Baratashvili streets. Movement from Sololaki will be allowed only from Amagleba Street in the direction of Chonkadze Street, from where transport will be able to move along Barnovi Street in the direction of Round Garden and also in the direction of Melikishvili Avenue;
Movement will be completely restricted on Tabukashvili, Chanturia, Virsaladze, Atoneli Streets, Dry Bridge, Saarbrücken Square, Khetagurov Square. Also, On the Baratashvili bridge, Baratashvili Hill, Ketevan Dedopli Avenue to the intersection of Lekh Kachinski Street. Also, traffic will be restricted on Avlip Zurabashvili, Telavi and Tsurtsumia Streets.
Traffic will be restricted on Europe Square, Gorgasali Square, Gorgasali Street, in the area surrounding the baths;
On the left bank of the Mtkvari River, traffic will be restricted from Galaktioni Bridge to the intersection of Bochormi Street and Levili Beach (to the head office of "SOCAR").
Alternative routes for vehicles: From "Laguna-Vere" it will be possible to move on Galaktioni Bridge and also via Mikheil Javakhishvili Hill on Kostava Street in the direction of the Philharmonic;
From Ingorokva Street, vehicles will be allowed to move via Griboedov Street in the direction of the Philharmonic;
From Kakheti the highway, vehicles will be allowed to move along Lech Kaczynski Street to the intersection of Bochormi Street in the direction of the Isani metro station;
From Ortachala and Gulia Square, traffic will be restricted to Galaktioni Bridge. From Zhani Kalandadze and Ortachala streets, vehicles will move along Gorgasali Street only in the direction of the Prosecutor's Office.
In addition, all restrictions on the streets adjacent to the Trinity Cathedral remain in force.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Tbilisi City Hall call on citizens to refrain from moving around by car, except in cases of emergency," reads the information.
