Mikheil Kavelashvili to the Muslim community: Your decision to refrain from holding festive events is a clear confirmation of the friendship and mutual respect on which relations between Christians and Muslims are based

“I would like to extend my belated congratulations on Eid al-Fitr and Novruz Bayram to our Muslim fellow citizens.

I sincerely thank you for the tremendous support you have shown to mourning Georgian Orthodox Christians following the passing of His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia,” Mikheil Kavelashvili wrote on social media.

As Kavelashvili noted, the Muslim community’s decision to refrain from celebrating Novruz Bayram and Eid al-Fitr due to Ilia II’s passing is a clear demonstration of brotherhood, friendship, and mutual respect.

“Your decision, in these most difficult moments, to share our grief and to refrain from holding celebrations for Novruz Bayram and Eid al-Fitr is a vivid confirmation of the brotherhood, friendship, and mutual respect that define the relationship between our fellow citizens - Christians and Muslims.

Once again, I congratulate you and wish you peace, happiness, and prosperity. Thank you for the worthy example of solidarity you have shown in recent days,” Kavelashvili wrote.
