“The killers and their lawyers will have to listen to me! I will leave no stone unturned!” said Eka Kupatadze, the mother of murdered teacher Giga Avaliani, outside the City Court, where she is expected to deliver her final statement as the legal successor of the victim.
Also present at the hearing are the minors accused of her son’s murder and their lawyers. The case is being heard by Judge Romeo Tkeshelashvili.
“When you think nothing the killers do can surprise you anymore—that’s not true. They manage to surprise me every time.
I was supposed to be questioned today as a witness, and they did not even want to question me.
I was supposed to give my final statement as the victim’s legal successor, which was to be considered when determining the sentence. We found out about this very late last night. That’s why I requested to come today. I came, and the killers and their lawyers will have to listen to me!
I ask journalists to record every lawyer—every single one! Ask them: were they not interested in questioning and hearing the person who, according to them, is ‘falsely accusing’ these minors? Are they not interested in hearing me? Were you not interested in hearing Nia Imnadze?! Nia Imnadze is the girl who laid my son in the ground and the one because of whom these minors were sent to prison. The girl who allegedly claimed my son harassed her had nothing to say in court? Ask every lawyer why they were not interested in Eka Kupatadze’s opinion regarding Nia Imnadze and the others. Thank you for your support. I will leave no stone unturned!” Kupatadze said.
She also brought her son Giga Avaliani’s books to the court hearing, saying she wants to show “who her son was and what kind of son was killed.”
