According to lawyer Khatuna Khurtsilava, former Defense Minister Juansher Burchuladze is ready to compensate the damage.
She added that the prosecution will be approached today regarding a plea agreement.
"We are ready to compensate the damage. As for the punishment, why should it be imprisonment? We are requesting conditional release; we will go over the details," Khatuna Khurtsilava said.
For information, the former Defense Minister, Juansher Burchuladze, stated at the court hearing that he will address the prosecution today regarding a plea agreement.
For reference, former Defense Minister Juansher Burchuladze has been charged under Article 194, Part 3, Subparagraph “g” and Article 332, Part 2 of the Criminal Code, which concerns abuse of official authority and legalization of illegal income. These acts carry a potential sentence of 9 to 12 years of imprisonment.
Burchuladze is accused of legalizing a total of 1,593,212 GEL in illegal and unjustified income. According to the charges, in 2023, with the assistance of his deputy, a relative, and the former head of the Procurement Department of the Georgian Ministry of Defense, he supplied a medical device to the military hospital for 3,940,000 GEL instead of 2,606,272 GEL, resulting in a financial loss of 1,333,728 GEL to the Ministry. Additionally, in March 2025, Juansher Burchuladze and his spouse purchased property in Spain for 544,000 euros. To conceal the origin and ownership of this property, they created a fictitious real estate purchase agreement in Daba Tsqneti with a third party to give it a legal appearance.
As for Vladimer Gudadshauri and Giorgi Khaindrava, they are accused of embezzling large sums of money, while Vasil Mkheidze is accused of assisting in embezzlement. They were charged under the Criminal Code of Georgia for embezzling large sums of money belonging to the Ministry of Defense in a premeditated group using their official positions, under Article 182, Part 2, Subparagraphs “a” and “d,” and Part 3, Subparagraph “b,” which carries a potential sentence of 7 to 11 years of imprisonment. Vladimer Gudadshauri has been released on bail.
