Lelo demands a temporary cap on fuel prices or a halving of excise duty to stop the increase in gasoline and diesel prices

In order to stop or slow down the increase in the price of gasoline and diesel, it is necessary to demand, temporarily, the imposition of an upper limit on the price of fuel or the halving of the excise tax, - said one of the leaders of Lelo-Strong Georgia, Tazo Datunashvili, thus speaking about the burden of increasing the price of fuel to 60 tetris and the threat of price increases for products and other aspects due to this.

According to Datunashvili, the Georgian Dream should meet the difficulties caused by the ongoing processes in the Middle East with concrete solutions, as several other countries have done.

“Many countries are responding to the crisis in the international market by either reducing excise duties or imposing a price cap on fuel. For example, on March 8, South Korea decided to impose a price cap. Similar temporary measures were taken by the governments of Hungary and Croatia in the European Union. With this decision, the price of diesel and gasoline will be maintained at a fixed level regardless of how the price of oil changes on the international market.

Georgian Dream was late in taking measures in this direction, as in everything else, but these measures are necessary. In order to stop or slow down the increase in gasoline and diesel prices, it is necessary to demand a temporary cap on fuel prices or a temporary halving of the excise duty. This decision will result in a reduction of approximately 560 million GEL for the Georgian budget within a month, which can be clearly balanced, especially in the conditions when the man called the Prime Minister of this country says that the economy of this country has a very big growth, therefore, it is quite possible to balance 50-60 million GEL per month so that the citizens of Georgia do not take on themselves the pressure that the increase in oil prices on the global market will cause.

Here, they can reduce corrupt practices, reduce the budget of the State Security Service, which performs no other function than political police, reduce the bureaucracy that serves these people excessively in absolutely all directions," said Tazo Datunashvili.
