Opposition Alliance launches a two-month campaign of national mobilization and announces a rally for May 26

The Opposition Alliance is launching a national mobilization campaign that will last for 2 months and will culminate symbolically on May 26, when a “large mass rally will be held in Tbilisi on Georgia’s Independence Day.” This is stated in the Opposition Alliance’s statement, which was presented to the public at a briefing by Zurab-Girchi Japaridze, one of the leaders of the Coalition for Change.

As stated in the appeal, direct, face-to-face communication with citizens must be increased, while at the same time, the regime’s propaganda must be neutralized.

“I will introduce you to the appeal of the Opposition Alliance. 35 years ago, today, on March 31, the citizens of Georgia, in a referendum held throughout the territory of Georgia, including Abkhazia and Samachablo, expressed their unwavering will to restore Georgia’s independence, independence that was declared back on May 26, 1918.

Both of these dates, March 31 and May 26, are very important dates in the history of independent Georgia. Both are related to the most important challenge of the Georgian nation - the issue of state independence. We believe that Georgia is facing the same challenge today.

That is why today, on March 31, we, the Opposition Alliance, announce that we are launching a joint - national mobilization campaign.

This is an initiative of the Opposition Alliance, but we want to say right now - this is not a campaign of these 9 parties or any separate political group. This is a job that everyone has to do.

Our goals are very simple:

First - we must increase direct, face-to-face communication with citizens. We must reach out to our citizens - wherever they are.

Second - we must neutralize the regime's propaganda. Because today the two main weapons that this regime has are lies and fear.

Third - we must transform the anger, protest and desire for change that has been present in society for years into real political action.

Fourth - we must defeat the fear that this regime has deliberately instilled over the years. And finally - we must increase the number of people involved in the protest, because change does not happen just through talking - change happens when many people stand together. Just like it happened 35 years ago, during the referendum on March 31.

This campaign will last for 2 months and its symbolic culmination will be a large, crowded rally planned in Tbilisi on May 26 - Georgia's Independence Day.

For us, for victory, it is very important that other political or civil groups, as well as active citizens, are involved in this process.

We would like to thank everyone who is currently in captivity of the regime; those who were in captivity and were released; those who are currently facing the risk of losing their freedom; Those who were tortured, poisoned, physically abused; those who lost their jobs, whose lives were ruined.

To everyone who stands every day on Rustaveli, in Batumi, Kutaisi, Zugdidi, Gori, Chkhorotskhu or other cities. To everyone who takes part in the Saturday marches in Tbilisi.

It is an honor for us to be with you in this fight. We promise no one an easy path. We promise no one miracles. But we know one thing for sure:

If we do not act, nothing will change. If we do act, regime change will only be a matter of time. Therefore, we suggest everyone to actively participate in this campaign, and in 2 months, on May 26, let us all gather again in Tbilisi,” Japaridze noted.
