“The use of May 26 and dividing it into supporters and opponents of Georgian Dream is unacceptable for us. It is important that the activities of any political actor are not tied to specific dates,” said Tata Khvedelian, a member of the For Georgia party, while commenting to journalists on the rally announced by the opposition alliance for May 26.
According to her, using May 26 for political gain by any side is unacceptable.
“It is very important to meet with Western partners and the international community and maintain ongoing dialogue with them. However, Georgia’s fate and our political situation must be decided within our country, by our people. There are many instruments for ensuring that the future of our country is determined in a peaceful way.
As for May 26, it is a very important day of national significance. For our team, patriotism, sovereignty, and independence are above party lines, and using this day for political purposes by any side is, of course, unacceptable.
Therefore, the use of May 26 and dividing it into supporters and opponents of ‘Dream’ is unacceptable to us. This day belongs to our people. It is important that the activities of any political force are not tied to specific dates.
For us, May 26 was also a day of great national importance last year. I don’t recall whether it took the form of a rally or something else, but whether a particular individual participates in such events is, in my view, less important,” Khvedelian stated.
For context, the “Opposition Alliance” has launched a national mobilization campaign that will last for two months. According to them, the symbolic culmination of the campaign will be May 26, Independence Day of Georgia, when a large-scale rally is planned in Tbilisi.
