Russia is prepared to normalize relations with Georgia, depending on Tbilisi’s willingness, stated Mikhail Galuzin, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia.
“We are ready to go as far in this direction as Tbilisi is willing. Naturally, we hope that our relations with Georgia, despite known political problems, will develop consistently where both sides are ready and where it is mutually beneficial,” Galuzin said.
He emphasized that economic, transport, and tourism ties are actively developing and expressed hope that the Georgian side is also interested in constructive relations with Russia, despite political difficulties.
Galuzin also commented on the visit of Mikhail Shvydkoy, Russia’s Special Representative for International Cultural Cooperation, to the funeral of Georgia’s Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II:
“He was truly Georgia’s national spiritual leader, a person who upheld traditional values, Orthodox traditions, and unity, gaining high authority worldwide. Shvidkoy expressed condolences to the clergy and the Georgian people on the Patriarch’s passing. This demonstrates the cultural, historical, and spiritual closeness between our peoples. Ultimately, we share a common value foundation,” Galuzin said.
