Peter Pellegrini after meeting with Mikheil Kavelashvili - We must respect that it is the sovereign decision of any country to continue negotiations with the EU and how it sees the European perspective - we openly discussed these topics

Slovakia fully respects the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognized borders - Bratislava is a place for dialogue, diplomacy, which is necessary to create trust between nations, - Slovak President Peter Pellegrini stated at the press conference after his meeting with Mikheil Kavelashvili.

According to him, the issue of EU enlargement was also discussed at the meeting with Mikheil Kavelashvili.

Peter Pellegrini also spoke at the press conference about the existing relations between Georgia and Slovakia and expressed hope that the parliamentary dialogue between the two countries will deepen.

“We covered a wide range of topics at the meeting. Currently, we are faced with cases of violations of international law, the reconfiguration of borders by great powers, and the foundation of the stability of the international system is being shaken. I am pleased to be able to emphasize and assure Mr. President that Slovakia fully respects the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognized borders.

Ladies and gentlemen, Bratislava and Slovakia are a place where we can look for solutions. Bratislava is a place for dialogue, for diplomacy, which is necessary to build trust between nations. Effective diplomacy and honest dialogue between states allow us to work out solutions, lasting solutions to international challenges.

One of my priorities is the EU enlargement policy. There are countries that express their desire to join the EU and they are working on reforms to meet the criteria. On the other hand, enlargement is a difficult process, but we must respect that it is a sovereign decision of any country to continue negotiations. It is up to the country to decide how it sees its European perspective. We openly discussed these topics with Mr. President. I assured him that Slovakia has become part of the large European market and a member of the European family of developed countries.

Once again, welcome to Slovakia, Mr. President. Thank you very much for the open and constructive discussion that we had. We shared our views on the current situation in Slovakia, Georgia and the European Union. I would be glad if your visit would be another stimulus for the further development of our relations. I repeat that Bratislava is a place and a space where better relations are established, negotiations on peace issues are underway. I am very pleased to welcome the President of Georgia and openly discuss issues of domestic politics and world politics," said Peter Pellegrini.
