The Orthodox Church today celebrates the Feast of the Annunciation of the Most Holy Theotokos

The Apostolic Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Georgia is celebrating the Feast of the Annunciation of the Most Holy Theotokos. In connection with the feast, the Locum Tenens of the Patriarchal Throne, Metropolitan of Senaki and Chkhorotsku, Shio (Mujiri), is officiating the Divine Liturgy at Sioni Patriarchal Cathedral.

The Liturgy at Sioni Patriarchal Cathedral will begin at 10:00 AM.

According to the Gospel, on this day the Archangel Gabriel announced to the Virgin Mary that she would give birth to Jesus Christ. For the Orthodox Church, the Annunciation is the feast marking the beginning of the salvation of humanity and the revelation of God’s hidden mystery.

Additionally, following the Divine Liturgy, a memorial service (panikhida) for the soul of the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, will be held in connection with the Feast of the Annunciation.
