It is very important for us to deepen relations between the Hungarian and Georgian peoples and authorities, - the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Procedural Issues, Davit Matikashvili, said in connection with the parliamentary elections held in Hungary, where he is present within the framework of the OSCE observation mission.
According to Matikashvili, the Hungarian people expressed their choice and voted for a political force they trust.
"The parliamentary elections in Hungary have ended. As we know from the Central Election Commission, 99% of the votes have been counted. The opposition coalition Tisza won convincingly. As you know, the head of the Georgian government congratulated the winning force on the victory in the parliamentary elections on behalf of the Georgian people and our government. It is very important for us to have the best relations with our friend Hungary. The elections were held in a calm, peaceful atmosphere. There was a very high turnout of citizens. There were long lines at the polling stations. The main thing is that the Hungarian people expressed their choice, voted for the political force they trust to form a new government and guide Hungary's domestic and foreign policy.
Once again, it is very important for us to deepen relations between the Hungarian and Georgian peoples and authorities,” Matikashvili noted.
Levan Makhashvili, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on European Integration, who is also in Hungary with an observation mission, noted that an unprecedentedly high turnout was recorded in the elections.
“The parliamentary elections in Hungary have ended. We were there within the framework of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, observing these elections. The elections took place in a peaceful environment, the population had the opportunity to express its will freely, without unnecessary barriers or restrictions. There was unprecedented participation, the highest participation in history, and ultimately, the opposition team received victory and significant support from the population.
The initial data and assessments of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, OSCE/ODIHR conclusions will be available today, at 17:00 Tbilisi time. After two months a final assessment will be made on this topic.
Ultimately, we can say that the elections took place in a normal environment, election procedures were respected, and the population expressed its opinion regarding the political leadership," Makhashvili said.
