According to parliamentary rules, at least one-fifth of MPs are authorized to file a constitutional complaint with the Constitutional Court. Before submission, the authenticity of MPs’ signatures on the complaint must be verified.
At today’s session, the committee confirmed the authenticity of the signatures of 89 MPs and concluded that this meets the requirement to submit the constitutional lawsuit.
The “Georgian Dream” party plans to file a new constitutional lawsuit with the Constitutional Court regarding the banning of political parties, while withdrawing its previous claim. In the new lawsuit, “Georgian Dream” has added the “Federalists” party to the list of parties it seeks to ban.
Previously, on October 31 of last year, “Georgian Dream” applied to the Constitutional Court seeking to ban three opposition parties: the “United National Movement,” the “Coalition for Change,” and “Lelo – Strong Georgia.”
