Nino Tsilosani to representatives of oil companies: For the consumer who refuels every day, the price you have is still a burden, and it does not matter that this price is not higher than in European countries - We need to identify where there is room for further price reductions

“For the consumer who refuels every day, the price you set does not matter in terms of whether it is lower than in European countries or not—it is still a burden. We need to identify where there is potential for further reducing these prices,” said Vice-Speaker Nino Tsilosani during a session of the Temporary Parliamentary Commission of Georgia studying the pricing structures of food products, medicines, and fuel. The session is reviewing the structure of the fuel market, the pricing chain, and operational processes in the sector with the participation of oil company representatives.

According to Tsilosani, “although today in Georgia fuel prices and excise duties are significantly lower compared to Eastern European countries, this does not matter to Georgian consumers, for whom the increase in fuel prices has become a burden. Therefore, it is necessary to identify resources to further reduce prices.”

“This session related to fuel probably raises fewer questions for me, because in previous meetings we used the argument that in European countries prices for certain products were relatively lower, and we followed that logic. In this case, it was also said that in European countries fuel prices are significantly higher than here, including excise duties and taxes, which are also quite favorable in our country. However, now we are looking at the consumer who refuels every day, and for whom it does not matter that the price is not higher than in European countries—it is still a burden. I would like us to identify where there is potential for further reducing these prices,” said Nino Tsilosani.
