We have positive expectations regarding the next steps, that sooner or later we will be able to bring these relations to the point that we consider the best option, I mean the restoration of strategic partnership, - Levan Makhashvili, Chairman of the European Integration Committee, said while talking to journalists about Georgian-American relations.
According to him, a good, productive, fruitful work process is underway in terms of resetting relations with America.
“There is a general, mutual understanding that we had a very difficult legacy left by the previous American administration. There is also a mutual understanding that it is necessary to take further steps to leave this legacy behind, to pass it on to history and to rebuild relations based on mutual interest. Today or over the past months, we have been observing the implementation of this political will. If we evaluate it by sectors, there have been steps in the direction of security, education, economy. Periodically, there is also political communication at the highest level, and this is precisely the working process.
We do not want to talk in advance so loudly about any type of expectations, because we want to give the working process an opportunity to work, to agree on some issues. In principle, the public also sees that after each of these communications, visits, phone calls, these relations have been moving forward. That is why we say that there is a positive dynamic and that is why we also have positive expectations regarding further steps, that we will be able to do this sooner or later (but hopefully sooner rather than later) to bring these relations to the point that we consider the best option, I mean the restoration of a strategic partnership.
Let's wait for these processes - a good, productive, fruitful work process is underway and hopefully in the near future we will have the opportunity to inform the public about specific steps," Makhashvili said.
