To be honest, I would refrain from criticizing the conclusion, however, the recommendations that the conclusion ultimately issued go beyond the scope of the Moscow Mechanism in every way, - said the Minister of Justice, Paata Salia, speaking about the report prepared within the framework of the Moscow Mechanism.
According to Paata Salia, the conclusion is unfounded, as the evidence presented by the Georgian side was not reflected.
"The fact that this conclusion makes such recommendations is precisely why it is frivolous and precisely why I considered it necessary to criticize it. Otherwise, if such conclusions had not been written, I would not have entered into the criticism of this conclusion, but what the expert wrote in the final part as recommendations that European countries sue Georgia in the Strasbourg Court, as well as that they sue Georgia in the International Criminal Court, is unthinkable. Only the statements of one side were reflected. In many cases, unsubstantiated, and the evidence presented by us was not reflected. We presented what was requested by them, but none of these documents were included in the conclusion. Doesn't this raise questions, why the documents they requested are not included in the conclusion? Doesn't it raise questions, why is the conclusion mainly based on political statements, unverified facts? When you have the opportunity, ask the lady who wrote this conclusion, why they did not take into account approximately 150 pages of information sent by the Georgian government," said Paata Salia.
Meanwhile, when asked by a journalist whether any law enforcement officers have been punished for alleged violence during the protests, the Minister of Justice replied that investigations are underway in these cases.
As for the case of the attack on journalist Guram Rogava, according to the Minister of Justice, the attacker has not yet been identified.
"I'm sorry, is the face of the special forces officer visible? Up to this stage, identification has not been possible, the investigation is ongoing. There are cases that can be investigated on the spot and there are cases where obtaining evidence is complicated due to objective reasons," said Paata Salia.
