According to the lawyer, Lana Tsertsvadze, they will also take to the European Court not only the final judgment but also certain decisions for which they were denied access, including the alleged withholding of exculpatory evidence from the defense.
She made the statement after the court hearing, noting that during today’s session on the kindergartens-related episode, all witnesses questioned denied any involvement of Liluashvili in that case.
“All five witnesses excluded any involvement of Mr. Grigol Liluashvili in the episode related to the so-called kindergartens case. None of the witnesses confirmed or stated that he had any connection to the charges brought in this episode.
The prosecution may present its version in the indictment, but it must be supported by a combination of evidence, including witness testimonies.
The witnesses not only do not know Mr. Liluashvili and have never seen him, but they have also never even heard that he had any involvement in the case in question.
Court proceedings are held to establish objective truth. The prosecution may have its version, but it is only one side; the court makes its decision based on evidence presented by both sides, and we are firmly convinced that the verdict will be acquittal.
The defendant himself is exercising the right to remain silent; at this stage he is not giving testimony and does not admit guilt in any of the charges,” the lawyer said.
She also noted that the defense has been restricted by confidentiality agreements and closed hearings, limiting their ability to speak publicly about evidence they claim proves the defendant’s innocence.
According to her, the defense is preparing to appeal through all legal levels, including the European Court of Human Rights, arguing that exculpatory evidence was withheld from them.
“We will take to the European Court not only the final judgment but also certain decisions, including those related to the concealment of information from the defense, such as exculpatory evidence that was not fully provided to us. We are challenging this through the appropriate legal procedures,” the lawyer stated.
