According to political logic, early parliamentary elections should be held in 2026, around autumn — “Georgian Dream” needs elections not out of goodwill, but based on its own interests, said political analyst Gia Khukhashvili in the program “360 Degrees” on PalitraNews.
According to Khukhashvili, “Georgian Dream” will not make any concessions unless it is forced to do so.
“‘Georgian Dream’ understands only the politics of force. It will not make any concessions unless someone forces it. Only the people have that instrument; political parties do not. If political parties want to force the government, they should not just set conditions on television and stomp their feet — they should gain public support and, through public pressure, force the government to back down. Otherwise, they can keep setting conditions; I can also sit down and write ten conditions myself. But if you are setting conditions, you must have the tools to make the government retreat. Otherwise, let them set conditions — the other side will simply mock them, as Kobakhidze does, and nothing else will happen,” Khukhashvili said.
Regarding pardons for those detained during protests, Khukhashvili stated that it is an illusion and false hope to expect that “Georgian Dream” will pardon prisoners based on a request from the Holy Synod or a new Patriarch.
“We often live in illusions and constant false hopes. Statements from members of the Synod do not interest anyone. Synod members do not decide who is released and who is not. Someone may say something to score points or save face, but it will not move the process forward — nothing more will happen. Compare the influence of today’s Patriarch with Ilia II — he has a hundred times less influence and still has a very long way to go to gain even a tenth of Ilia II’s authority. If it could not be achieved during Ilia II’s time, what logic suggests it would be possible now?
If they repent, they will be released — that requires no mediation, neither from the Patriarchate nor anyone else. Those who repent will be ‘kicked out’ anyway; they would not keep such a person in prison. If someone repents, it means they have broken, given up the struggle, are no longer dangerous, and will be released. This does not require the Patriarchate or the Synod,” Khukhashvili said.
