According to Lana Tsertsvadze, Liluashvili’s lawyer, speaking to journalists before the court hearing, her client was not informed at all about the investigation launched against his deputy, Levan Akhobadze.
“We have no information whatsoever regarding this incident involving Levan Akhobadze. I do not know what purpose is served by mentioning Grigol Liluashvili in a negative context in the public space. However, the fact remains that Liluashvili had no information related to this case. Moreover, it is unclear to me what Levan Akhobadze is being accused of; as you know, a non-disclosure agreement has been imposed on lawyers in this case as well.
Grigol Liluashvili did not know that an investigation was ongoing; he has no information whatsoever. Furthermore, I do not know what Levan Akhobadze is being accused of or what the essence of the dispute is. The confidentiality order makes me think that there is a lack of evidence in this case as well,” Tsertsvadze said.
In response to a question about whether Liluashvili denies acting as an intermediary in receiving a bribe, the lawyer answered in the affirmative.
“Of course, he denies it. Grigol Liluashvili is fully prepared to provide information to the investigative authorities, stating only that he had no information about any of the alleged facts. To this day, no communication from the investigative bodies has taken place with us,” she said.
She also ruled out the possibility of new charges being brought against Liluashvili.
“I rule it out, because if I have no information about anything and do not even know what the person is being accused of, it is unimaginable that new charges could be filed,” she said.
Liluashvili was arrested on December 23, 2025. The lawyer said she does not know when the investigation into Akhobadze began, but stressed that neither she nor her client were informed that any investigation involving Akhobadze had been underway.
At the court, five prosecution witnesses are currently giving testimony. According to the lawyer, none of the witnesses questioned so far in the kindergarten-related episode have provided any information implicating Liluashvili, let alone evidence against him.
For context, former deputy head of the State Security Service Levan Akhobadze was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Agency of the State Security Service. He is charged with accepting a particularly large bribe. The agency named Grigol Liluashvili as a person involved in the bribery scheme.
As for Grigol Liluashvili, he was handcuffed when he came to the Prosecutor’s Office for questioning. He is charged under Article 338, Part 2, Subparagraph “g” and Part 3, Subparagraph “e” of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which refers to accepting a particularly large bribe by a group in prior agreement, carrying a sentence of 11 to 15 years of imprisonment.
