The party “Gakharia for Georgia” is initiating a draft resolution in the Parliament of Georgia in response to the so-called agreement on deepening allied interaction between the Russian Federation and the Tskhinvali occupation regime, as well as Russia’s annexation policy, according to party member Shalva Kereselidze

Speaking at a briefing, Kereselidze said the party is calling on the Georgian Parliament to end its silence and support a resolution against the annexation of Georgian territories.

The party is also calling on the government of Georgia to end what it describes as inaction, restore active diplomatic relations, and strengthen real cooperation with international partners so that the issue of Georgia’s occupied territories remains on the international agenda and the country is not left alone in the face of Russian aggression.

“Tomorrow is May 26 - Independence Day of Georgia - and unfortunately we are meeting this symbolic day amid continued silence from the government regarding the annexation of occupied territories.

That is why today the party ‘Gakharia for Georgia’ is initiating in Parliament a draft resolution on the response to the agreement signed on May 9 of this year between the Russian Federation and the Tskhinvali occupation regime on so-called ‘deepening allied interaction,’ and on Russia’s annexation policy.

As you know, the agreement signed on May 9, 2026 is another extremely dangerous stage of Russia’s de facto annexation of the Tskhinvali region. It is another aggressive act against Georgia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and statehood, which envisages the full integration of the occupied region’s social, economic, transport, energy, defense, and foreign policy spheres with the Russian Federation.

The most alarming part is that the ‘Georgian Dream’ government remains silent on all of this. In these conditions, the Parliament of Georgia remains the only space where a clear political and legal assessment of Russia’s annexation policy can be made.

The ‘Georgian Dream’ still has a chance to act in defense of Georgia’s national interests. Therefore, we call on the Parliament of Georgia to end its silence and support the resolution against the annexation of Georgian territories. We also call on the government of Georgia to stop its inaction, restore active diplomatic relations, and ensure real cooperation with international partners so that the issue of Georgia’s occupied territories remains on the international agenda and our country is not left alone in the face of Russian aggression.

Today, as Russia continues to seize Georgian territories, it is our duty to be clear and principled in defending our country’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. Happy Independence Day of Georgia,” Kereselidze said.
