Giorgi Sharashidze on the rally: I did not hear a plan; we have been asking for a plan to be announced since the boycott campaign began - once again it has been confirmed that changing the government through street protests alone is not realistic

The rally held yesterday was not anything particularly new or groundbreaking. I don’t think it has any kind of turning-point significance - once again it has been confirmed that changing the government through street protests alone is not realistic and that political instruments must also be used, - said Giorgi Sharashidze, a Member of Parliament from “Gakharia for Georgia,” speaking to journalists.

According to him, peaceful demonstrations are important for the political process, but they are not sufficient on their own to change the government.

“Honestly, I did not hear a plan. We have been asking them to present a plan ever since the boycott campaign began. As you may remember, we publicly asked what their plan was after the boycott, and since then we have not received an answer. Even at yesterday’s rally, we did not hear anything about a plan.

Of course, peaceful demonstrations are important for the political process. You also need to send a message to ‘Georgian Dream’ that freedom of speech and expression must be protected in this country, but once again it has been confirmed that changing the government through street protests alone is not realistic. For that, along with peaceful protest, political instruments must also be used. That is why we are where we are - I mean in parliament - using political tools to fight against ‘Georgian Dream’. Time will tell the rest. Yesterday’s rally itself was not something particularly new. We have been seeing weekly marches. I don’t think this has any kind of turning-point significance,” Sharashidze said.
