According to the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, the new Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line will be officially launched on June 2. According to the ministry, the new line is a joint strategic project of Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkey, which plays an important role in strengthening connectivity between Europe and Asia. The new railway route creates additional capacity in the region, significantly contributes to the diversification of freight flow routes and strengthens the connectivity of the region.
As noted in the information, the total length of the Marabda-Kartsakh railway section is 180 kilometers. Within the framework of the project, 153 kilometers were rehabilitated and reconstructed, and a completely new railway line with European standards of 27 kilometers was built.
"The volume of freight transportation on the new Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line is growing every year. With the full operation of the line, the project's capacity will increase to 5 million tons, which will allow the region to handle additional cargo flows and significantly strengthen its transport capabilities.
The full operation of the mentioned railway section became possible as a result of the signing of the Protocol of the Bilateral Coordination Council by the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Mariam Kvrivishvili and the Minister of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan Rashad Nabiyev during the visit of the Prime Minister of Georgia to the city of Baku, Azerbaijan," reads the information.
