When once a month, along with other television stations, there are open threats of sanctions against the Public Broadcaster, this is truly interference in the activities of the media - I will not start talking about myself, but when the leadership are threatened with sanctions, it is a lie that this does not affect employees, because this is aimed at internal censorship - when they tell you that if this is the case, you will no longer be able to go abroad, you will no longer be able to do certain things, you cannot demand that everyone be Tsotne Dadiani! This type of problem really exists - this is politicization in the media! - Vasil Maghlaperidze, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Public Broadcaster, stated while presenting an annual report to the deputies at the session of the Parliament's Culture Committee.
In response to a question, Maghlaperidze also spoke about the reorganization of the Adjara Television of the Georgian Public Broadcaster, as part of which several employees were dismissed.
According to Maghlaperidze, nothing special is happening at Adjara Television and “some process may even continue.”
He emphasized that no one is being persecuted on political grounds. As Maghlaperidze noted, “people have learned that they should immediately explain this with political persecution.”
“Due to the political background that exists in the country and exists independently of us, each decision of the Public Broadcaster becomes a part of politics. Nothing special happened in Adjara Television, which does not happen almost every day in any organization and is more important.
There were a number of reasons - including the fact that they worked in several places –.. Everything is within the framework of the law and in compliance with the law," Vasil Maghlaperidze said at the Culture Committee meeting.
He also said, "There is a problem of this type when individual people, including those who work as journalists, are confused about how expressing their personal opinions fits into professional ethics."
